Therapy Services
|
| Although the treatment we provide is rooted in scriptural
authority, we also
use accepted forms of conventional psychological therapy to help define and
overcome any difficulties you may be experiencing. To that end we may use: |
-
Psychotherapy
-
Play Therapy
-
Art Therapy
|
-
EMDR
-
Theophostic Counseling
-
Group Therapy
|
|
 |
PSYCHOTHERAPY may be long or short term in nature. In
certain circumstances it may involve taking medication. |
|
|
| PLAY THERAPY is particularly useful for children and adolescents and is used
to discover underlying fears or trauma that a child might otherwise be reluctant
to or incapable of discussing. |
 |
|
|
| ART THERAPY is suitable for our young clients
as as well as our older ones. It allows expression of inner
thoughts in ways that frequently cannot be conveyed with
words, fosters
emotional growth, and facilitates awareness and expression of
emotions. Utilizing a variety of techniques, non-verbal
communication is encouraged through the use of various art media. |
|
The art work produced is used for assessment,
as well as for ongoing treatment. It may be used not only for the
treatment of current issues, but also as a preventative for issues
that may arise in the future. Treatment teaches people how to deal
effectively with their emotions and relationships, and arms them
with tools to cope with life's disappointments. |
|
|
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is
a relatively new therapy that has received recognition as being
particularly effective in the treatment of trauma, anxiety, phobia, and
unrelenting grief. The treatment helps free individuals from the effects
of troubling experiences, while empowering them to move forward toward a
positive future.
EMDR therapy is an integrative approach that uses the brain's information
processing system to "reload" a difficult experience into a more
functional memory network that includes appropriate thoughts, feelings,
and body sensations. With the use of an external stimulus, such as a light
bar, the memory of the traumatic event is actually reprocessed and freshly
stored in a new area of the brain, resulting in the rapid relief of
distressing symptoms, often within a brief series of sessions.
CCA has two therapists trained in EMDR techniques. Mike Flynn, CCA's
Director, has completed Level I
training, and Sharon Harris has completed Level II training. If you would like
more information about EMDR treatment, please call us
at 804-378-3364 or e-mail

THEOPHOSTIC COUNSELING (or Theophostic Prayer Ministry) shares many of the fundamental beliefs inherent in Repressed Memory Therapy. Both conclude that traumatic events,
particularly sexual abuse during childhood, are repressed at the time of the incident but live on in the subconscious mind of the individual, inflicting great emotional distress throughout their
adult life. These memories are revisited during a TPM counseling session. Then Jesus, or the Holy Spirit, is invited to enter the mind of a born-again Christian and cause the lies of Satan
associated with the event to be over-written and corrected -- much like a virus is removed from a computer disk.

|
|
GROUP THERAPY involves active participation with other individuals
who have similar challenges and who are seeking the same
guidance in their lives. The
group setting can often be the most effective and comfortable way to work on
certain issues. It can also be more cost effective than individual counseling.
We have many ongoing groups, including:
-
Divorce
Recovery (Adults/Children)
-
Men’s Relationship Skills
-
Women’s Issues (Co-Dependency/ACOA)
-
Sexual
Abuse Recovery (All Ages)
-

Special Men's Seminar
This seminar will try to help you find answers to common questions men have, like...
-
Do you wonder if you are treating your wife like Christ treats the church?
-
Are you relating to your daughter in ways that will enable her to become attracted to a husband who will love and
respect her?
-
Are you being a dad to your son in a way that teaches him "what to do" instead of "what not to do"?
-
Do you have a male friend you can tell the truth to?
-
Are you telling yourself the truth?
-
How do you like the way you are living the life God gave you?
|
If answering these questions makes sense to you,
e-mail us
or call Mike Flynn at 804-334-9598 or 804-378-3364.
