
Resident Counselor - A Virginia native, Joannie was born and raised in Staunton. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from VA Tech in 1988. In 1997, after living in Northern VA and working in the Human Resources field, she moved to Richmond and took time out of the workforce to raise her three children. While home, she decided to return to her love of psychology and counseling and entered VCU. She received her M.Ed. in Counselor Education in 2006. She currently employed by Henrico County as a School Counselor, and is a resident counselor for CCA.
Joannie is a lifelong Lutheran who has taught children’s Sunday School and participated in Vacation Bible School for many years. She has gone through numerous personal life challenges and has seen God’s loving hand at work throughout them. She sincerely believes that traditional counseling approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, coupled with the wisdom of God’s Word, are a powerful combination. Together she believes that they can provide relief for struggles that individuals and families are going through.
Joannie enjoys working with children of all ages individually and in groups to identify and help overcome childhood disorders, trauma, abuse, and school issues. She is eager to expand her areas of expertise and is capable of helping adults address areas of career planning and assessment, anger management, depression, anxiety, building relationship skills, bereavement/death, and women's issues.
