Licensed Therapist - Hailing from a large family in Atlanta, Georgia Anita was born with cerebral palsy. Both of these aspects of her life have done much to teach her to be compassionate and understanding of others. She has spent most of her adult life in Virginia, and now considers it to be her home. She attended Virginia Commonwealth University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology (1977), a Master’s of Science degree in Counseling Psychology (1981) and a Master’s of Social Work (1990).
Although she considers herself to be a generalist, she has experience dealing with the emotional aspects of physical disability, women’s issues, victims of domestic violence, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Married and a dedicated Christian, Anita believes strongly that we all have the God-given capacity to discover the answers to our individual problems. Therapy in her view involves teaching her clients to recognize this inner capacity, and then to exercise it in a collaborative relationship.
Anita is very receptive to clients with issues associated with disabilities. She passionately believes people with disabilities still have the capacity to enjoy life and make a contribution to the common good, despite their limitations. If anything is lacking in their lives, she will consider it her personal responsibility to help them find the people and resources necessary to accomplish their individual goals.
